Job purpose

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team as a Summer Operations Intern at our Aftermarket Remanufacturing Plant in Troy, MI.

 

In this role, you will support production by assisting with 5S activities, process improvement initiatives, data collection, and work standardization. You will also participate in Lean Manufacturing efforts, inventory tracking, and safety audits while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance operational efficiency. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain valuable experience in manufacturing operations and continuous improvement.

Responsabilidades clave
  • Assist production supervisors in organizing and maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe workspace by implementing 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
  • Develop and maintain a visual dashboard tracking Safety, Productivity, Quality, Volume, and Cost (SPQVC) metrics to provide real-time performance insights and drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Process Improvement Support – Identify inefficiencies in production processes and suggest improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Work Standardization – Assist in documenting and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), labelling for various production tasks.
  • Conduct and Lead WIP Cycle Counts- This involves scheduling counts, coordinating with relevant departments, and implementing best practices to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Training Support – Help develop training materials and assist in onboarding new production employees with best practices.
  • Project Support – Assist Engineering and Industrial engineering team in various projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, reducing downtime, and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with operations, engineering, warehouse and quality teams to support seamless production workflows.
  • Inventory & Material Handling – Monitor inventory levels, coordinate with the supply chain team, and ensure materials are available for production. Improve material handling of components by suggesting creative solutions to reduce defects caused by improper handling.
  • Data Collection & Analysis – Gather and analyze production data to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives. Create and present monthly production and warehouse Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Safety & Compliance – Support safety initiatives by conducting audits, reporting hazards, and promoting a culture of safety.
Requisitos
  • Pursuing bachelor’s degree in operations, industrial engineering, or related degree
  • Excellent communication skills and interest in medium/heavy duty aftermarket and remanufacturing is a plus
  • Understanding of manufacturing, quality, and inspection
  • Strong work ethic, willingness to learn
  • Good personal and presentation skills, to enable liaison with internal and external customers
  • Ability to work methodically and take initiative in improving established processes
  • Recent experience in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a must
  • Self-starter that is open to feedback and can implement practical solutions from on-the-job skills and knowledge
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, and able to plan and manage own projects
  • Good organizational skills – managing multiple projects at once
  • Good written and spoken fluency in English
